comedy and love story.

Semester break has arrived :D. A week of break means a lot ! since we've been busy for months... Meetings came one and another consecutively and it's just plain exhaustive. So, since there's a pit stop. As usual i'll do what i like to do: Movies ! xD

Genre : Animation/Comedy
Title : Monsters vs Aliens

This movie is L.A.M.E funny. I can't remember the last movie that I watched and send me laughing all the way...probably this year's funniest so far...oh ya. Paul Blart : Mall cop and NATM 2: Battle of the Smithsonian managed to get a few chuckles from me but this Monsters vs Alien is just dead LAME. So, i think you got it now..i may be lame in real life because i just love lame jokes. Good job good job. B.O.B(Seth Rogen) is funny as he probably gets the best lines of the script.

Sense of humor : 8/10
story line : 5/10
How good is the film : 5/10
How much i like it : 7/10

Genre : Drama/love/romance.
Title : The Love of Siam.

I am not a romantic person and this film is certainly not a totally romantic film. It's about the true nature of love. When we talk about love movies, we don't always link it to romance right ? Love is universal and it covers a lot of aspects. So, not much boy-girl relationship here(even though the poster looks much like it xD). What's attracting me to watch this film is this : boy-boy relationship. I know this is unusual to the eyes of the societies but i don't really care much about it. And this is just part of the storyline. The movie is all about love, love and love...the circle involved Mew, a boy and his grandmother and his childhood friend Tong, soon become his crush and a girl who has a crush on him and his childhood friend's family which suddenly went wrong when his sister went missing and then the father had great depression, leaving his mother living in agony by witnessing her husband being a drinker and her son kissing Mew.. o my gosh ..i think you are lost now because i also don't know what i am talking about..By the way it's a boy-boy-girl-boy-girl-boy-friends-family-husband-wife-and a stranger's love, and how love can bring us life.

The love factor : 8/10
Storyline : 8/10
How good is the film : 8/10
How much I like it : 7/10

jom wayang !!

Many of you out there may not know that I'm actually an amatuer movie buff - yes, the one who chases good movies be it Hollywood(Commercial or the Academy Awards), Cannes, Hong Kong China, far east or even south east Asia ! as long as it's a great work =) . For the sake of updating this blog let me share some of the movies that you MIGHT NOT wanna miss for this year's :D

Before i could start to share those movies, let me have some words by telling you that those movies are my recommendations and at the same time might not be applicable or suit you. All of them are my predictions/own personal opinions that would be some good piece of work. So here goes....

*There's no ranking. The movies are placed randomly.

1. Up

SYNOPSIS : At age 78, life seems to have passed Carl Fredricksen by, until a twist of fate (and a persistent 8-year old named Russell) gives him a new lease on life

Personal : This is another adventure animation by Disney.Pixar. Do expect the next Wall-E, Ratatouille, Finding Nemo, Cars - type of movie..and also watch out for the next Oscars ! xD

2. Public Enemies

Synopsis : No one could stop John Dillinger and his gang. No jail could hold him. His charm and audacious jailbreaks endeared him to almost everyone -- from his girlfriend Billie Frechette to an American public who had no sympathy for the banks that had plunged the country into the Depression. But while the adventures of Dillinger' gang -- later including Baby Face Nelson and Alvin Karpis -- thrilled many, J. Edgar Hoover made Dillinger America's first Public Enemy Number One and sent in Melvin Purvis, the dashing "Clark Gable of the FBI." However, Dillinger and his gang outwitted and outgunned Purvis' men in wild chases and shootouts. Only after importing a crew of Western ex-lawmen (newly baptized as agents) and orchestrating epic betrayals -- from the infamous "Lady in Red" to the Chicago crime boss Frank Nitti -- were Purvis, the FBI and their new crew of gunfighters able to close in on Dillinger.

Personal : The plot is kinda complicated. Starring Johnny Depp and Christian Bale.

3. Sell Out !

Synopsis:
Her name is Rafflesia Pong (Rafflesia=largest flower in the world, which reeks of animal carcass; Pong=stink). She’s a bottom-ranking arts show host who’s disillusioned with “those over-rated underachievers we call artists.” He’s Eric Tan (Eric=Eric, Tan=typical Chinese surname), a product designer who’s just about to learn that it doesn’t pay to be creative. They both work for FONY, a multinational conglomerate whose mission statement, copied from a Taiwanese company, is to be original.

In the face of such pressure, will Eric and Rafflesia retain their artistic integrityor will they finally sell out to fame, fortune or some other nasty thing that also starts with “F”?

Personal : Support-lah Malaysian movie...I'm looking forward to get a copy of DVD for this movie. And i'm kinda proud that the Malaysian director(Yeo Joon Han) able to write and direct such a much-applause movie which had been impressive at various film festival around the world !

4. Departures(Japan)

synopsis :
Daigo Kobayashi is a young married cellist who played in an orchestra that has just been disbanded. Suddenly on the street without a job, Daigo decides to move back to his hometown with his wife. There he gets a job as an undertaker. He sees himself as a sort of gatekeeper between life and death. However, Daigo's work is despised by all the people around him. But it is through his relationship with death on a daily basis that Daigo begins to understand what life is really about.

Personal : It was actually a 2008 movie before it came to fame by winning an Oscars for best foreign language film beating Waltz With Bashir(Israel).

5. Inglorious Basterds

Synopsis : I
n German-occupied France, Shosanna Dreyfus witnesses the execution of her family at the hand of Nazi Colonel Hans Landa. Shosanna narrowly escapes and flees to Paris, where she forges a new identity as the owner and operator of a cinema. Elsewhere in Europe, Lieutenant Aldo Raine organizes a group of Jewish soldiers to engage in targeted acts of retribution. Known to their enemy as "The Basterds," Raine's squad joins German actress and undercover agent Bridget Von Hammersmark on a mission to take down the leaders of The Third Reich. Fates converge under a cinema marquee, where Shosanna is poised to carry out a revenge plan of her own...

Personal : An interesting violent flick starring Brad Pitt and directed by the talented Quentin Tarantino. There will be blood xD

6. Earth

Synopsis : The story of three animal families and their amazing journeys across the planet we all call home. The film combines rare action, unimaginable scale and impossible locations by capturing the most intimate moments of our planet's wildest and most elusive creatures.

Personal : This documentary feature was made to mark the world's earth day. I'm not sure if it will screen on Malaysia but i'm pretty sure that you would like it if you are a "nature" person =)

7. Avatar

Synopsis : A band of humans are pitted in a battle against a distant planet's indigenous population.

Personal : Last but not least, A sci-fi starring Sam worthington and Sigourney Weaver. Directed by James Cameron. Out on December ...

American Idol season 8

Standing ovation for Adam Lambert although he didn't win the competition(AI8). He totally outperformed the boy-next-door-look Kris Allen during the finale or should i say the entire season of the competition. I looked up to Adam because he's much more charismatic, talented and powerful vocal than Kris(Who?...i forgot him liao). I've browsed through the internet forum and found out that Adam is actually gay. One of the factors he didn't get enough votes was due to the religion issue, and other factors include homophobia voters and Kris has worked as a church worship leader. If Americans voted Kris because of his looks and not voted for Adam because he's gay, i think they should be given a slap. By the way, American Idol season 8 ended just like that and I doubt if I would follow-up for next season because this season's winner is absolutely ridiculous.
